About Lake Placid

The greater Lake Placid area offers 27 clear, freshwater lakes with some of the best fishing anywhere. This southern portion of Central Florida, also known as "The Ridge," is one of the most scenic areas of the Sunshine State. Our hospitality and the beauty of our lakes and rolling hills have spurred residential growth around Lake Placid. Both year-round and part-time residents enjoy our quiet countryside, and rely on the Town of Lake Placid for daily essentials as well as cultural, recreational and educational pursuits.

While you can enjoy the friendliness, comfort, and safety of our community, you don’t have to go far for the amenities of larger metropolitan centers. Being the most southern town in Highlands County, Lake Placid is a comfortable drive away from either coast and most population centers of the state.

You can take in the major attractions in Orlando, just 100 miles from Lake Placid or experience big city life in Miami, which is 145 miles to the south east.

Regularly scheduled flights are available at airports in Orlando, Ft. Myers, Sarasota, Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale.
